Collaboration Opportunities
After the completion of this project, we believe that our system could continue to be improved and updated. The primary target for collaboration would be the British Broadcasting Corporation and University College London’s Engineering faculty; not only are these our clients but we believe that what we have developed is well-suited to their needs and area of expertise.
We feel strongly that Politics Mapper, after some UI changes, would feature well on the BBC Politics page as it would allow curious members of the public to discover more about their politicians and perhaps invigorate their interest in British politics. The BBC are well-placed in offering this service to the public as they are a public service responsible for providing impartial broadcasting; there is nothing less impartial than the facts themselves and that is exactly what is delivered by Politics Mapper. Alternatively, our system could be used internally by the BBC for journalism research and as a source for infographics.
We can envisage UCL’s Engineering faculty continuing our work by implementing the machine learning features from our original requirements set and using it to conduct research on political trends over time. Our client from UCL Engineering has also indicated that he would like the project to be open-source and we fully support this direction as there is no better way to collaborate than through open-source development!
